Low Emission Neighbourhood
What is the Low Emission Neighbourhood?
We are combating air pollution in the City Fringe by creating a 'Low Emission Neighbourhood' (LEN). This means developing new schemes that prioritise walking, cycling and the use of electric vehicles through the creation of new routes, new public spaces, innovative electric vehicle charging and smart parking. The LEN aims to be a pioneering blueprint of how cities of the future should be designed and a test-bed of new solutions that can be rolled out city, nation and worldwide.
We are removing the car-bike port on the eastern arm of Leonard Circus and replacing with formal cycle parking.
The first works as part of the City Fringe Low Emissions Neighbourhood are taking place at the junction of Rivington Street and Charlotte Road.
The City Fringe Low Emissions Neighbourhood looks to transform the area to make it much improved for pedestrians, cyclists and electric car users.
Following on from the success of Leonard Circus we are rolling out another shared space scheme on Rivington Street.
