Explore walks in your area

There are many benefits to walking; it is easy to start whatever your fitness level, you don't need any equipment other than a pair of comfortable shoes and it is free. We all know we are meant to do thirty minutes of exercise a day for our health, but walking also contributes to our happiness and wellbeing. So, now that we are confined to home why not do a little research and discover the unexplored and historic corners of your borough within walking distance?

Spring is a great time to get out and explore new routes as part of your daily exercise, whether you are just setting out or want to achieve your 10,000 steps. A great place to start is your local park, however, currently some of these are closed, so it is worth checking before you go as this can change on a daily basis.

Apps & Technology

There is a plethora of both free and paid for apps available for Android & Apple devices, but it is worth exploring what your phone already has built in. Many can now record your route on a map, count the number of steps, the calories used and even tell you how much climbing you have done, it's up to you whether you deserve cake with your cup of tea when you get home!

Google maps - choose the walking option and you can add multiple stop off points to make a circular route, guided by voice.

Map my Walk - user uploaded routes & recommendations, also allows you to record your walk

All Trails - app with routes & directions that shows your position on the route as you walk.
